What do I Need to Know?

An Australian Apprenticeship (commonly known as an apprenticeship or traineeship) is a great learning choice for your son or daughter, as they’ll be able to mix paid work with on-the-job training while they complete a nationally-recognised qualification. An Australian School-based Apprenticeship, as the name suggests, is completed whilst your son or daughter is still enrolled at school. The school is required to release your son or daughter for a minimum of 1 day each week in order to complete employment or training. The program is endorsed that the Australian School-based Apprentice will undertake a minimum of 6 hours of training and 7 hours of employment each week.

Apprentices and trainees finish their higher-learning journeys equipped with practical skills and the formal education required for successful careers. This powerful combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience is highly regarded by employers across many industries and professions.

How do they work?

APPRENTICESHIPS

An apprenticeship is a structured training arrangement of usually 3.5 or 4 years duration. To begin an apprenticeship your son or daughter will need to find a job with an employer. The training combines practical experience at work under the instruction of a suitable employer, with off-the-job training provided by a Registered Training Organisation.

On successful completion, they are issued with a nationally-recognised qualification and on-the-job skills that employers value. This typically results in a full-time position in a career they love.

TRAINEESHIPS

A U Train traineeship is a training agreement between the trainee and U Train. U Train will organise a Host Employer whereby the hot employer agrees to train the trainee in a specific industry, and the trainee agrees to work and learn.

Traineeships are available for people over the age of 15 and usually last between nine to 48 months, depending on the vocation and certificate level undertaken.
